Fast-pyrolysis is a rapid, thermochemical process that heats biomass in the absence of oxygen to produce liquid bio-oil, solid biochar, and non-condensable syngas. The distribution of these products is highly dependent on process parameters like temperature, heating rate, and the type of biomass used.
Our fast-pyrolysis fluidized Bed Reactors uses a bed of inert particles, which is “fluidized” by a gas stream. This provides excellent heat transfer and uniform temperature distribution. Both bubbling and circulating fluidized beds are used, with the latter offering enhanced heat transfer and scalability. To achieve the very high heating rates and short vapor residence times necessary for fast pyrolysis reactor is designed to maximize heat transfer to the biomass particles and quickly remove the vapor products to prevent cracking into unwanted gases.
